Halloween was a Treat this year!!!

Mattie did SO well this Halloween, thanks to his on going ABA training, and his PECS “Trick or Treat” card his teacher made him.  We went to about 15 houses with my twin Godsons (one of which is also Special Needs), and everyone was in a great mood and VERY well behaved!!  Remind me to bring that card again next year, because that was the key.  Not only did Mattie use it PECS appropriately, meaning he handed it to each person opening the door, and then pointed to each word as he has been taught, but now my neighbors are more aware of Autism and it’s impact on not just one child, but the entire community! Win, Win, for everyone this year!! (Oh, and I scored a few Reese Cups as well!!)

  1. Thanks for the update – I was awaiting the ending and am very glad it was a happy one! I would very much like to see some photos of this PEC card you are talking about as I have never seen one. Also, perhaps parents of autistic children would like to learn more about this. Can you give us some additional info including how it works. Is there perhaps a video of Mattie using one you can post and share?

Kudos to Mattie’s teacher – she seems like a real treasure.

  2. I am so happy to hear that he did well for you. What an accomplishment!! Those pecs are a great way to communicate as well as social stories. We used social stories with Amanda for years. Thankfully, we don’t need them anymore!!! So happy to hear that they are doing ABA with him and that he is responding so well. Keep up the good work!!!!
